Report: BMW 1M to be produced only in 2011

TheDetroitBureau reports that the BMW 1M will be pulled after one year. Quoting Matt Russell, the U.S. M brand manager, the publication says the 1M production will run until December of this year. For Autoblog, BMW says less than 1,000 units will be built for the U.S. market.
[1M] “will be a one-year car,” said Matt Russell in an interview with TheDetroitBureau, a statement that hopefully stops many of the speculations seen around the web. Latest one came from our publication earlier in the day when a BMW source says the company is currently testing a 1M Convertible. If 1M Coupe production ends this year, it remains to be seen if the Leipzig production lines will keep the 1M Cabrio running through it.
The Detroit-based publication also reports that the Munich-based automaker hints that a future update may be in the works, but it will be based on the next generation 1 Series Coupe which goes on sale in 2013, putting the M version on the market by earliest 2015.
